Fox Peak Station Fernley, the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe’s newest convenience store, smoke shop and gas station will host their grand opening on May 23, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. The ceremony will feature Tribal dignitaries and VIP guests with live music by Raymond Oneil and the Flashbacks. The first 2 hours – 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, Fox Peak Station Fernley will give away free hot dogs and Pepsi; and will be offering discounted gas. Tribal water user’s rate will increase to $30.00 per month; water users on the Tribal sewer system will increase to $45.00 per month effective June 1, 2009.
At the January 13, 2009 Council meeting, the Council voted to increase the water rates to pay for the increased maintenance costs of the water system. Water rates have not increased for 10 years, however the Tribe can no longer maintain the water system at the current rates.

The Senior Committee held their bi-annual elections on May 14, 2009 for the Stillwater Tribal Senior Committee. It is with great pride the Fallon Business Council and the community extends their congratulation to the 2009-2010 winners: Chairman Merlyn Dixon, Vice-Chairman Brenda Hicks, Treasurer Lenora “Dudie” Rogers, and members Lillie Dyer-Bright, Ann Dixon and Beverly Hicks. The Secretary position is vacant and will be appointed to serve the two year term.

I was invited to attend the 11th Annual National Health and Human Service Tribal and Budget Consultation Session in Washington, DC on April 29-30, 2009.
As the current Chairman, Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe and current President, Indian Health Board of Nevada, I am in a unique position to address the disparities and lack of data not only in my own community, but throughout Nevada’s Native American communities. American Indians know there is a lack of inequality, but are uncertain of the extent that inequality costs our communities.
