GOALS & PROGRAMS

In Fiscal Year 2005, the Environmental Protection Department formally established strategic goals to accomplish this mission. These goals are to:

  • Build tribal capacity to administer Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe environmental regulatory programs.

  • Reduce or prevent pollution of the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe’s natural resources.

  • Conserve energy and natural resources by reducing or eliminating the amount of waste generated by the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe.

  • Protect the human health of the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe.

  • Prepare the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe for natural or man made emergencies and disasters.

  • Educate the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe on environmental issues.

The following PROGRAMS were recently established based on the above goals:
  • Ttribal capacity development

  • Tribal air program development

  • Solid waste and recycling

  • Arsenic reduction in drinking water

  • Reducing nonpoint source water pollution

  • Water quality sampling and analysis

  • Consumptive plant analysis

  • Open dump closure planning

  • Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

  • Global Positioning Systems (GPS)

  • Radon detection

  • Lead awareness

  • Mosquito abatement

  • Noxious weed inventory and control

  • Wetlands protection

  • Wildlife assessment

  • Mining issues

  • Mold assessments

  • Hazardous materials awareness & response

  • Emergency planning & preparedness

  • Community education

The Environmental Protection Department will continue to address environmental issues that affect the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe and looks forward to another year of challenge.
