The Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe contracted with the Bureau of Indian Affairs to administer their Higher Education funds. This covers: Higher Education Scholarships, Enrichment Program, and Adult Vocational Training.

The Tribe set aside money from the Settlement Fund under the GSOA portion for use by tribal members who wish to continue their education. The Tribe will contribute towards a student’s unmet needs.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Must be an enrolled member of the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe. All applicants must provide proof of membership.
  • Funds available for undergraduate students. Funds available for Graduate students if they are unused by undergraduate students.
  • Students are required to maintain the following Grade Point Average (GPA):
    • Freshman 2.0
    • Sophomore 2.50
    • Junior 2.75
    • Senior/Graduates 3.0
  • Applications are to be submitted each year. The deadline for applications will be June 1.
  • All completed applications must meet the program deadline.
  • FASFA application is mandatory (unless taking five credits or less).
  • Applicant must be currently enrolled; or accepted for enrollment by an accredited college or university.
  • AVT applicants must accept full-time employment in their field of study, as soon as possible. AVT will sponsor a tribal member for only one program of study.

PROGRAMS AVAILABLE:

ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

This program is for students who do not want to enroll full-time, but need a class to upgrade their jobs or who are earning credits towards a degree.

  • Student’s must be enrolled in a college or university for a total of (11) eleven credits or less.
  • Students must maintain a minimum GPA as previously listed.
  • Students must enroll in courses that will enhance their employment opportunities or aid in their pursuit of a degree.
  • Freshman and Sophomore students are required to turn in Progress Reports mailed the third week of class and the 10th week of class.
  • A FASFA application is mandatory, unless the student is taking (5) credits or less.
  • All completed applications must meet the program deadline which is June 1. Students are to list the classes and books needed for fall and/or spring semesters. Include lab and registration costs if needed.

  • Tuition
  • Registration and Lab Fees
  • Books

ADULT VOCATIONAL TRAINING

This program is available for students who want to attend a Technical school and learn a trade. This would include courses for: Computer Technicians, Nursing, Secretarial, Contractor’s License, Barber etc. Program’s now in session: Heavy Equipment Operator, Real Estate Appraisal, and Truck Driver Training.

  • Student’s must be enrolled in a Voc-Tech, school full time.
  • Students must maintain the minimum GPA for their program.
  • Students must enroll in courses that will enhance their employment opportunities and be employed in that career after graduation.
  • A FASFA application is mandatory, unless the student is taking a course that not long enough to warrant federal grants.
  • The Adult Vocational Training Program is a "one time only program". This means that students can enroll in this program once, they are not allowed to change careers and try something else.
  • Students are required to turn in Progress Reports.

Funds Allocated to:

  • Tuition
  • Registration and Lab Fees
  • Books and supplies dependent upon funds available.
  • Living expenses dependent upon funds available.

HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
This program is for full-time students who are enrolled for 12 credits or more in an accredited college or university. Students must be enrolled in an accredited college.
