This position involves duties that require specialized skills and an extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical and pharmacy practices. The position requires application of judgment based on substantial experience in pharmaceutical procedures. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacist(s) in ensuring the effective and efficient provision of patient care within the scope of the clinic. The technician will have varying responsibilities, depending on applicable Tribal, Federal and State ordinances, rules, and regulations related to the preparation, review, dispensing, distribution, and control of drugs under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. The technician typically is responsible for and performs routine tasks to help prepare, fill and label prescribed medications of patients for pharmacist review. A partial but not all inclusive list of routine duties are daily screening of telephone calls from patients & physicians and provide needed telephone and administrative support for the department. Develop and maintain a service log on all telephone calls with complete follow-up history and periodic report(s) of service call trends for the department. Assist patients submitting written prescriptions and refill request. Assist physician’s offices transmitting prescriptions electronically. Correctly process prescriptions transmitted by physicians or prescriptions and refill requests submitted by patients. Establish and maintain patient medication profiles when entering prescriptions into the Registered Patient Management System (RPMS). Correctly identify and retrieve specified oral, topical and parenteral drug product(s) from inventories. Exact counting of tablets and capsules, exact measuring of volumes of liquids, exact weighing of topical ointments/creams and correct reconstitution of powders for oral suspension. Limited compounding of specified extemporaneous preparations from tablets or capsules, liquids or suspensions and topical ointments or cream. Prepare prescriptions label(s), select the appropriate type(s) of prescription container(s), and affix the prescription label(s) and specified auxiliary label(s) to the container(s). Identify “will call” prescriptions for patient pick up and “return to stock” medications not picked up by patient on a consistent and timely schedule. Assist patients picking up medications and document verification that patient receives correct prescription(s) ETC….
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS; Must have a High School Diploma or a GED. Must have an active National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) at time of interview. Must have a minimum of three (3) years of successful technician experience in a retail or Tribal Health Clinic.
