POSITION DESCRIPTION

Administers position functions under the direction of the Court Administrator as outlined by the Law and Order Code and by performing the below listed essential duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinates activities such as jury selection, notification, utilization; case scheduling and tracking; personnel assignments and space and equipment allocation; orderly processing of court cases.
  2. Evaluates problems that affect case flow, recommends corrective measures to Court Administrator and upon approval, and implements them. Consults with or refers serious problems to Court Administrator for further investigation.
  3. Monitors expenditures, reconciles check requests and invoices as directed by the Court Administrator.
  4. Work with Tribal Law and Order Committee to review and recommend new and revised Tribal codes and ordinances; recommend revisions to policies and procedures according to Tribal codes which impact the judiciary.
  5. Resolves complaints raised by court personnel, attorneys and members of other organizations and public. Keeps Court Administrator informed of complaints which may be more serious or require additional follow-up or assistance.
  6. Prepares docket or calendar of cases to be called for assigned courts.
  7. Maintains files for all court proceedings to which you are assigned.
  8. Examines legal documents submitted to court adherence to law or court procedures. Prepares case folders and posts, files or routes documents.
  9. Explains procedures or forms to parties to the case.
  10. Secures information for judges and/or the court by contacting witnesses, attorneys and litigants, and instructs parties when to appear in court.
  11. Administers oath to witnesses.
  12. Records minutes or court proceedings and transcribes testimonies.
  13. Records case disposition, court orders and arrangement for payment of court fees.
  14. Collects court fees and fines, and gives them to the Court Administrator for deposit with Chief Finance Officer, unless directed by Court Administrator to deposit them with the CFO.
  15. Ensures strict adherence to Tribal and Federal Laws, including confidentiality and Indian Civil Rights.
  16. Other job related duties as assigned by the reporting supervisor.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Two (2) year degree from a community college or technical school in a related area.
  2. Three (3) years’ of related experience and/or training.
