POSITION DESCRIPTION

As the Kitchen Assistant, the incumbent will be responsible to assist the Senior Center staff with daily preparation of regular meals, keeping the kitchen orderly, sanitized and all equipment ready for use. The incumbent will also, as part of their daily duties, keep restrooms, annex, and building clean and orderly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist Staff in accomplishing the following duties:

  1. Keep the dishes sanitized, clean and ready for use, and for the daily cleaning of all used kitchen pots, pans, and other equipment.
  2. Ensures that the dining area is set-up for daily congregate meal service.
  3. Maintain an accurate and ongoing inventory of food and supplies.
  4. Follow directions regarding proper meal preparation.
  5. Assist with proper storing of food and supply items.
  6. Keep daily, bi-weekly, monthly and annual logs updated, including temperature logs for the refrigerator and freezer.
  7. Assist with clean-up of the kitchen.
  8. Responsible for the daily housekeeping of the Senior Center.
  9. Must be able to lift heavy objects.
  10. Assists with the daily signing in of elders and guests, including collecting any meal fees, and delivering home-bound meals as needed.
  11. Other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen or restaurant setting preferred.

  • Must have a Food Handler’s certificate and ServSafe Certification or able to obtain within 60 days from date of hire
  • Able to follow directions
  • Must be able to maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen and facility
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with persons in the performance of the required duties
  • Must have knowledge of proper food handling and food storage procedures

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  1. The duties of this position include mandatory reporting pursuant to 1) the Victims of Child Abuse law (34 USC § 20341) and 2) elder and vulnerable person laws (NRS 200.5093), as incorporated by decision of the FBC that elders and those who cannot speak for themselves are entitled to the same protections. Because such laws may subject employees to criminal penalties under FPST LOC § 5-50-040 and/or 18 U.S.C. §§ 1169 and 2258, all employees hired to this position must complete a Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire.
  2. This position must operate a motor vehicle.  The applicant must possess a valid State of Nevada driver’s license (or the ability to obtain within 90 days) and must remain insurable under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
