POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Law Enforcement Secretary is the first line of contact with the department, including visitors, customers, and the general public. Law Enforcement Secretary greets and responds to all manner of inquires (in person, by phone, or by other means such as mail and emails) from customers, visitors and the general public, as well as announce visitors and keep a log of office guests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Routes incoming mail.
- Locates appropriate files and documents for answer by the department supervisor.
- Computer word processing skills, proficiency in Windows based files.
- Organizes and maintains filing system and files reports, correspondence and other records.
- Answers and screens department telephone calls and taking messages, arranges appointments.
- Coordinates with supervisor for scheduling and appointments.
- Greets visitors and directs to appropriate area or person.
- Arranges and coordinates departments travel and reservations.
- Conducts research and compiles reports as needed.
- Coordinates and arranges meeting schedules, agendas, facilities, locations and transcribes meeting minutes for presentations and meetings.
- Make copies of printed materials for dissemination to proper persons.
- Prepares outgoing mail and correspondence.
- Orders and maintains office and other supplies as directed.
- Arranges for equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Strict adherence to Tribal and Federal Confidentiality Policies.
- Must be impartial in the fulfillment of job duties and functions.
- Conducts inquiries of Report Management Systems as directed.
- Other job related duties as assigned by the reporting supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to read and interpret documents (safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals).
- Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divides in all units of measure.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to solving multi-variable problems and putting solutions into written, oral or diagram form.
- Ability to perform under stressful situations is a must, while remaining professional inactions and demeanor.
- Noise levels are usually moderate in the work environment. To perform this job successfully, the employee must perform the job duties and assignments with a satisfactory completion in a timely manner. The employee must be willing to undergo a law enforcement background investigation and driver’s license verification and suitability investigation. Per Federal Law, this individual must not have any felony convictions, or any two (2)-misdemeanor convictions of a disbarring nature or any convictions of domestic violence. This position is a law enforcement sensitive position.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

- An Associates’ Degree (AA) or equivalent form of a two (2) year college education; or six (6) months to one (1) year work related or training experience; or combination thereof.
- Physical demands are consistent with normal office work: long periods of sitting, use of hands and fingers, light lifting and ability to speak and hear, and vision good enough to see colors, determine depth and to adjust focus on objects or persons.

- The work environment is of a law enforcement nature with some incidents of having to deal with difficult or demanding people or active environmental changes (emergencies).
