BILLING CLERK

Program: Fallon Tribal Health Clinic           Grade: GS – 6
Supervisor: Associate Director- Business Services Range: $13.59-$16.23 (hourly)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt                           Type: Regular Full-Time

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Billing Clerk will be responsible for submitting claims to the Third Party Administrator (HCH) for tribal employees, processing checks into the RPMS AR package, and preparing deposits. A computerized accounting and record keeping will be maintained.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintain the confidentiality, security and integrity of the information in the patient’s financial record and accounting records of the department.
2. Claims will be submitted for all clinics, including medical, dental, optometry, mental health, public health and pharmacy. Review each EOB for re-submittals or for write-off.
3. Post all checks to the RPMS AR package to the posted claims.
4. Collect checks, make copies of checks and money orders for deposit and prepare report for Associate Director of Business Services signature.
5. Keep accurate accounting of payments received.
6. Maintain accurate ledger of amounts billed, amounts received and reason for non-payment. Problem claims will be submitted for corrective action to Associate Director of Business Services.
7. Match invoices and statements with proper request for payment. Submit for signature and payment.
8. Act as back up for others if needed.
9. Other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:
1. Candidate shall have a High School Diploma or GED certification
2. Experience in health billing or processing of claims is preferred
3. Experience in word processing, operating a computer terminal and other office equipment is helpful
Licenses & Certificates:
1. Must possess a CPC (Certified Professional Coder) Certificate or able to obtain in six (6) months

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. A working knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid or private insurance requirements
2. Familiar with HCFA 1500
3. Knowledgeable in medical terminology
4. Shall be knowledgeable of the Privacy Act and be able to maintain confidentiality of records
Other Requirements:
1. Must successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen
