CLINICAL REGISTERED NURSE (RN) (PART TIME)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Provide professional nursing care to patients served in the Fallon Tribal Health Center (FTHC) in accordance with sound professional and nursing principles and to adopt these services so that the basic and special needs of the patients are met.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Obtain preliminary health history and physical assessment of patients. Make appropriate referrals to other team members or provide necessary service.
2. Screen and assess patients who are not physically present following telephone triage protocols. Determine the need to be seen and/or the urgency of the condition.
3. Function under the established routines and medical protocols of the Health Center. Promote continuity of care by establishing follow-up care or referrals to other healthcare providers.
4. Provide education to patients and families regarding the management of medications, treatments, home care or discharge instructions, etc.
5. Assists the provider in performing diagnostic and therapeutic measures including disbursement of medications, casting, suturing, wound debridement, dressing changes, etc.
6. Provides and/or assists in the provision of emergency care. Implement first aid in an emergency according to emergency preparedness policies.
7. Apply basic time management and patient care coordination skills to effectively provide nursing and health care services.
8. Participate in quality improvement activities.
9. Utilize Electronic Health Record (EHR) medical records system through established patient management system, in a competent manner, and provide team support for efficient functionality.
10. Perform treatments, routine labs, EKG’s, and other diagnostic procedures as requested.
11. Review medical record to assure all orders have been carried out and all treatment observations and recommendations have been documented.
12. Reports infections, when appropriate, within Health Center to appropriate public health agency.
13. Return patient telephone calls; arrange follow up visits through reception.
14. Administers subdural, subcutaneous, and intra-muscular injections and immunizations, as well as allergy injections, per medical provider orders.
15. Performs venipuncture, and processes bodily fluids for laboratory testing.
16. Administrative duties, departmental meetings, and committee duties as assigned.
17. Collect information for patient care studies, quality care studies as directed by appropriate clinical personnel or supervisor.
18. Manages all portions of the FTHC employee health program including employee immunization status, laboratory screening and follow up results and plans annual employee health/flu vaccination clinics.
19. Maintains accurate recall system, collects data and reports to Infection Prevention and Control.
20. Frequently communicates and coordinates community and employee health screenings/clinics.
21. Supervise appropriate staff including Medical Assistants (MA).
22. Other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

1. Knowledge of professional nursing standards, theories, and abilities, procedures and techniques used in acute and chronic disease care and education and have the ability to implement these within a clinical setting.
2. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and Privacy Act regulations and maintain the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the patient’s care and information.
3. Proven ability to read, understand and apply program rules and regulations for State, Federal and Tribal assistance programs.
4. Have good typing skills and be familiar with basic office procedures.
5. Must demonstrate proven effective interpersonal communication skills.
6. Must be able to work with American Indian people on an individual and group basis.
7. Knowledge and skill in operation of specialized medical equipment, such as AED, resuscitators, EKG machine, monitors, pulmonary function, etc.
8. Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects and complications of their use.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

1. Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
2. Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nevada with no restrictions or violations.
3. Must have at least three (3) years of professional nursing experience with preference in an outpatient and high-volume practice setting.
4. Be able to obtain/maintain CPR, ACLS and PALS certification within six (6) months.

1. This position requires compliance with the Indian Child Protection & Family Violence Prevention Act (P.L. 103-63; Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention (25 CFR Part 63); Employee Background Checks (Crime Control Act of 1990); Adjudicative Guidelines (Executive Order 12968) and therefore must successfully complete an extensive background.
2. This position requires that the candidate be a mandated reporter.
