POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Cook / Housekeeper will be responsible for the daily preparation of meals for clients and staff in a co-educational emergency youth shelter. This position employ’s a full range of quantity and individual cooking procedures from frequently used recipes to those which are new and complex. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Planning menu’s meeting USDA meal requirements
  2. Purchase food supplies and other shelter supplies such as laundry soap, paper goods, personal hygiene items, necessary to shelter needs
  3. Receive and sort food and other supplies in compliance with state and tribal health and safety standards
  4. Maintain meal count and logs for documentation purposes
  5. Adjusts menu according to staff and client needs
  6. Cleans kitchen/shelter with assistance from clients and Techs
  7. Will be trained as a Youth Tech so if needed may cover shift
  8. Insures the Shelter’s Sanitation & Disinfecting policy is followed when cleaning
  9. Insures all cleaning chemicals are properly stored and inaccessible to clients
  10. Keep supervisor informed on inventory and stock
  11. Insure the overall health and safety of all youth placed in the shelter
  12. Knowledge of computer programs
  13. Shall have an appropriate professional interpersonal client relationship
  14. Other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. High School Graduate (or GED completion)
  2. Prefer at least 3 years cooking experience
  3. Must have the ability to prepare and serve palatable meals while reserving the nutritional values
  4. Prepare and serve meals for up to 15 people per day, 21 meals per week

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. THIS POSITION REQUIRES COMPLIANCE WITH THE INDIAN CHILD PROTECTION and FAMILY VIOLENCE PREVENTION ACT PUBLIC LAW 101-630; 25 CODE of FEDERAL REGULATIONS PART 63 – INDIAN CHILD PROTECTION and FAMILY VIOLENCE PREVENTION; CRIME CONTROL ACT OF 1990, EMPLOYEE BACKGROUND CHECKS; and EXECUTIVE ORDER 12968, ADJUDICATIVE GUIDELINES AND THEREFORE MUST SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE AN EXTENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECK BEFORE START EMPLOYMENT.
  2. This position requires that the candidate be a mandated reporter.
  3. Shall pass annual courses in CPR & First Aid
  4. Must pass shelter’s annual training’s certifications
  5. Complete food handlers and hazardous communication standard certification annually
  6. Shall pass annual courses in CPR & First Aid

  9. Must be sensitive to children with special needs
  10. Complete a physical and TB test prior to starting work
  11. Have no DUI convictions for the past five (5) years
  12. Cook/Housekeeper should be able to demonstrate knowledge of foodborne disease prevention and basic food safety principles.
  13. Shop and have strong knowledge of Accounting and Budgeting Procedures
