POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Cook / Housekeeper will be responsible for the daily preparation of meals for clients and staff in a co-educational emergency youth shelter. This position employ’s a full range of quantity and individual cooking procedures from frequently used recipes to those which are new and complex. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Planning menu’s meeting USDA meal requirements
- Purchase food supplies and other shelter supplies such as laundry soap, paper goods, personal hygiene items, necessary to shelter needs
- Receive and sort food and other supplies in compliance with state and tribal health and safety standards
- Maintain meal count and logs for documentation purposes
- Adjusts menu according to staff and client needs
- Cleans kitchen/shelter with assistance from clients and Techs
- Will be trained as a Youth Tech so if needed may cover shift
- Insures the Shelter’s Sanitation & Disinfecting policy is followed when cleaning
- Insures all cleaning chemicals are properly stored and inaccessible to clients
- Keep supervisor informed on inventory and stock
- Insure the overall health and safety of all youth placed in the shelter
- Knowledge of computer programs
- Shall have an appropriate professional interpersonal client relationship
- Other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- High School Graduate (or GED completion)
- Prefer at least 3 years cooking experience
- Must have the ability to prepare and serve palatable meals while reserving the nutritional values
- Prepare and serve meals for up to 15 people per day, 21 meals per week

- THIS POSITION REQUIRES COMPLIANCE WITH THE INDIAN CHILD PROTECTION and FAMILY VIOLENCE PREVENTION ACT PUBLIC LAW 101-630; 25 CODE of FEDERAL REGULATIONS PART 63 – INDIAN CHILD PROTECTION and FAMILY VIOLENCE PREVENTION; CRIME CONTROL ACT OF 1990, EMPLOYEE BACKGROUND CHECKS; and EXECUTIVE ORDER 12968, ADJUDICATIVE GUIDELINES AND THEREFORE MUST SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE AN EXTENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECK BEFORE START EMPLOYMENT.
- This position requires that the candidate be a mandated reporter.
- Shall pass annual courses in CPR & First Aid
- Must pass shelter’s annual training’s certifications
- Complete food handlers and hazardous communication standard certification annually
- Shall pass annual courses in CPR & First Aid

- Must be sensitive to children with special needs
- Complete a physical and TB test prior to starting work
- Have no DUI convictions for the past five (5) years
- Cook/Housekeeper should be able to demonstrate knowledge of foodborne disease prevention and basic food safety principles.
- Shop and have strong knowledge of Accounting and Budgeting Procedures
