Performs all maintenance and repair work as well as light construction, electrical, plumbing, light landscaping, air conditioning (HVAC), and misc. repair work to Tribal building’s interiors and exteriors. Receives direct supervision from Public Works Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspects buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair making notes and recommendations.
- Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacements or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools.
- Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.).
- Performs minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging door, fitting locks and handles, etc.)
- Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remount modular offices and space (e.g. furniture, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc.) to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand, power, and specialty tools, dollies and hand trucks.
- Prepares the surfaces and paints various structures and equipment (e.g. walls, evaporative coolers, floors, roofs, doors, restrooms facilities, etc.) to preserve wood, and metal parts from corrosion and maintain a safe, comfortable working environment using various painting equipment and related tools (e.g. sprayers, rollers, brushes, thinners, etc.)
- Landscaping maintenance, mowing/edging, spraying and pulling weeds, pruning of shrubs and trees and repair of irrigation systems, etc.
- Must be able to work flexible hours and travel between sites as needed.
- Must be able to respond to emergencies in “after hours” situations.
- Routinely monitors all heating and cooling (e.g. HVAC), fire suppression, electrical, and plumbing of facilities.
- Organizes and maintains a tool and supplies inventory for the proper maintenance of the facilities and equipment.
- Assists set-up and take-down of equipment and furniture for programs and events as needed.
- Attends meetings as required. Participates in continuing education programs and conferences to keep informed of current trends, issues, materials, techniques, equipment and methods related to the assigned area of responsibility.
- Assist with various Tribal construction projects as needed.
- Assists the Water and Sanitation Department as needed.
- Checks vehicles to insure proper and safe operations: performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs and reports mechanical problems to supervisor.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs recreational equipment and prepares reserved areas of park for use.
- Installs and replaces broken glass.
- Snow and ice removal around facilities when required.
- Heavy equipment operation as needed.
- Obtain cost estimates for repairs or parts as requested by supervisor.
- Must maintain confidentiality.
- Other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to handle multiple projects, daily activities, and meet timelines.
- Knowledge of basic methods, safe work practices and techniques especially in the appropriate and safe handling of chemicals, materials, and equipment used in construction and facilities maintenance. (e.g. paints, refrigerants, glass, batteries, oils, cleaning products, pest and herbicide chemicals, etc.)
- Skill in operating tools and equipment used in maintenance, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and painting.
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor and lift heavy objects.
- Understand and follow verbal and written directions, work effectively in the absence of supervision, and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Ability to recognize safety and security hazards and correct or eliminate them.
- Must be able to access all areas of FPST facilities including but not limited to: roof, crawl spaces, going up and down ladders and stairs, etc.
- Must be able to become OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certified.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum three years experience in maintenance, construction, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or painting fields.
- Must be able to perform heavy manual work associated with building and facilities maintenance work which includes lifting objects weighing more than 50 pounds, exposure to dust, temperatures, noise, inclement weather, and occasional exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Must possess a valid Nevada driver’s license and be able to operate a vehicle safely.
