POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Substance Abuse Counselor shall conduct individual and group counseling sessions, education sessions, organize youth groups for diversion activities, maintain a professional office, maintain accurate records, and prepare court reports, as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Conduct professional substance abuse counseling and education sessions 2. Maintains the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the patient’s care and information. 3. Report and document all depositions of individual and family cases. 4. Maintain accurate records of all sessions and activities. 5. Provide referrals to clients for medical, social, welfare, and psychological needs. 6. Provide counseling services to individuals, families and groups. 7. Write professional reports and assessment as required to the court and probation officials. 8. Facilitate all necessary paperwork to enter eligible and approved clients into substance abuse treatment. 9. Performs drug screening drug and alcohol tests on clients. 10. Responsible for providing video presentations and lectures to schools, or other appropriate settings. Provide prevention counseling for court designated youth. 11. Assist in organizing youth activities. 12. Participate in Child Protective Team, committee, staff, and other meetings, as requested. 13. Present written reports, report activities and caseloads to the Health Services Director on a monthly basis. 14. Administer program and grant activities in a timely manner and within budget. Review and analyze budget reports, and prepare and develop budgets and modifications. Prepare and submit required reports to Tribal administration and funding agencies in a timely manner. 15. Submit proper reporting forms to the Indian Health Services. 16. Enter case encounters in the CDMIS reporting system. 17. Submit periodic equipment inventory lists. 18. Follow all appropriate laws and accepted ethical standards. 19. Perform other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 1. A preferred candidate possesses an undergraduate degree in psychology, psychiatry, or related field. 2. Must be, or be in the process of becoming a State Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor. 3. Must have at least two (2) years’ experience in counseling field.
