FALLON PAIUTE SHOSHONE TRIBE Receives $950,000 Grant Award
FALLON, Nev.-Jennifer John, grants administrator for the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe, announces the award of a $950,000 grant by the Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), for the “Mending the Circle” project, a project that will adopt Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy/Rational Living Therapy (RLT) for adolescents and transitional aged youth and their family/caregivers. Based upon project performance, the grant is renewable for $950,000 each year through 2017 for a total award of $3,800,000.
The project is a collaboration between the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe, New Frontier Treatment Center of Fallon, NV, and Quest Counseling and Consulting, Inc., of Reno, NV. The project is designed to expand and enhance substance use and co-occurring treatment in underserved northern and rural Nevada.
The project will bring together stakeholders across the systems serving youth populations to create a coordinated network to develop policies, expand workforce capacity, and bring MFT and RLT to communities in northern Nevada. The creation of the Northern Nevada Youth Council will help improve the integration and efficiency of the adolescent substance use, co-occurring substance use, and mental health disorders treatment and recovery support systems. The project will implement changes to the providers’ financial mechanisms in order to use grant funds to leverage additional resources to help serve clients and their families. Over the four-year project period, a total of 520 youth will be served – (130 unduplicated clients each year of the grant).
The three major goals of the project are: 1) To provide Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) and Rational Living Therapy (RLT) training to staff of the three partnering agencies in order to enhance and expand delivery of services for adolescents and transitional aged youth with substance use and co-occurring mental disorders in Northern Nevada; 2) To provide enhanced and expanded substance use, tobacco cessation, and co-occurring mental health disorder services to the adolescents 12-24 years with no preference to gender, ethnicity, disability or sexual orientation in Northern Nevada; 3) To foster increased collaboration and coordination between agencies working with young people in Northern Nevada to meet the ever increasing behavioral health care needs of adolescents and transitional aged youth.
